August 29 New DVD/CDR DriveHello again to everyone. This week has been quite interesting. There are lots of things going on at work with the helicopters, and we have been busy. Everything should be settling down this Saturday or Sunday. My father has received the new drive from Dell Inc. and was going to ship the drive to me, but the price of shipping was $70. I also have to ship the damaged drive back, so I am thinking on just buying an external drive and keep the new drive at my fathers house till I return. I haven’t decided yet. This last Friday, we took pictures at the pool, and had a great time swimming and sun tanning. I also have perfected my flip, but I can’t say the same for Mork with his dives. He is continuing to struggle and still has lots to work on. Tomorrow is payday, and I will be going out and buying the final supplies needed to finish painting my room. I also picked up a used refrigerator from a Canadian that is retiring from Saudi Arabian Airlines. I hope to have my room ready to move in soon. After I finish painting, I am going to go shopping for a rug to put down over the carpet in the room. Till the room is ready, I will continue to stay across the hall. That’s it from me for now. Talk to everyone later. Peace out! Redwine August 18 My DVD/CDR DriveHello everyone! Today, I went to watch a movie and my DVD/CDR drive broke. I put a disk in and when it was trying to read the disk, I heard a load obnoxious high pitch screaming. I opened the drive to find that the center piece that holds the disk in place was broken, and only half of it was left. How it broke, I am not sure. I contacted Dell Inc., and they are sending a new drive to my father’s house. I have to have it sent there first, before it’s sent to me overseas. Dell wont sent to direct to me. What a bummer! Swimming was great today. It’s so nice to rest and relax over at the pool. The sun is always shining and it’s always hot, but the breeze makes it all worth while. Mork attempting his dives again. HAHAHA. His first dive was not that bad. The following dive…. he went off the diving board. Once he left the board, he just went straight ahead and into the water. He never even started to arch. He went straight in feet first with his arms flailing into the air as he was making weird noises. I will give him credit though. He is trying. I was practicing on my flips into the water from the board. The first went great! The second was not quite a full revolution. Now the third…. Just plain hurt! Right onto my back with a loud slap! HAHA. Perhaps sometime soon, I will have perfection of the flip. That’s it from me for now, have fun everyone! Laaattteee!!! Redwine August 12 Painting my roomHello to everyone out there. I have started to paint a room opposite of the room I have now. I figured that if this room is where I will live for two years, I better make it a home. I'm in the middle of the desert, and what paint colors do I choose.... blown, and beige. Go figure, haha. My coworkers are calling the room the new coffee room since one of the colors is mocha haha. Work is still the same, of course. I spend more time reading my books than working. Another reason I chose to paint my room. It's something to do. Two of the helicopters are rumored to be flying out on a mission, but they have not departed yet. They are fueled and ready to depart, and yet, they sit static on the ramp. When we went into downtown Jeddah, I realized I am getting very good at looking at my surroundings and knowing what is going on. Three of the many places we went to, I felt very uncomfortable and was keeping a very close eye on some of the people around me. How I would escape the situation, and I always kept the exits in close proximity. You have to in a place like this. I am now the minority, and the unwanted to some of the locals here. On the bright side of being here, the pool was fantastic yesterday afternoon. Swimming and sun tanning in the Arabian sun. Triple digit weather of course. Does it get any better than that? Mork, the English bloke, attempted to learn how to dive into a pool. Every time he proceeded to attempt a dive, he would freak out and the dive would end as a wild splash! haha. At least after about ten jumps, he was getting the hang of it. Let us just see how he does next Friday. Mork is a great guy and I am glad to be working with him. That's it from me for now. I gotta jet. Laaatttteeeee!!!!! Redwine August 02 Its my birthday!Hello Everyone! Things here are different then in Riyadh. I haven't really seen much of the city yet. Till then, I am not sure. The quarters has more to do on base, including a swimming pool! Between here and Riyadh, I can see that this base is much better. All except for the water situation. The water here is supplied by truck, and so the base has run out of water two days in a row. Hopefully the water will not run out tomorrow.
Work is something that I know everyone wants to hear about from me. Unfortunately I am not able to talk about much at all. Its the whole classified thing. Work is going really well though, and I like it here.
Its my birthday today, and I got a card from Natashka. I have to say that its the best card I have ever received from anyone before! I was also surprised with a phone call from her today saying happy birthday. I dont think the day could have gone better! I seem to always spend birthdays in wierd places. Last year was Kotzebue, Alaska, swimming in the Arctic Circle. I did not go swimming in the Red Sea today, but I will be within the next few weeks! Thats a given!
Thats it from me for now. Peace out!!
